A presentation of the international research project ACCESS, which aims to create an integrated system enabling remote participation in live-streamed performing arts events, offering a much stronger sense of presence than currently available live video streaming solutions. The project makes use of cutting-edge deep learning (DL) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, combining them with advanced virtual reality (VR) tools in an innovative and immersive way.

The project is designed to foster knowledge exchange between academic experts and business partners in pioneering technological fields such as AI and VR.

The international research consortium consists of five institutions:

  • Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and the Social Computing Research Center (SCRC) at CUT, led by Prof. S. Chatzis, have participated in several large MSCA-RISE projects and regularly publish high-level research in deep learning. With specialization in advanced language models and access to modern GPU-equipped laboratories, CUT is fully prepared to deliver on its assigned tasks within ACCESS.

  • AI Cyprus Ethical Novelties Ltd, founded by leading AI experts in Cyprus, specializes in innovative applications of artificial intelligence addressing social challenges, with a strong focus on social inclusion. Under the leadership of Dr. Partaourides and Dr. Panousis, the company develops advanced deep learning algorithms optimized for everyday devices.

  • NOWARLAB SL, directed by Guillermo Aracil, is a multidisciplinary VR company specializing in innovative digital entertainment. With strong expertise in visual design, 3D modeling, UX, programming, and marketing, and equipped with a full set of VR hardware, the company is well prepared to support ACCESS. It will lead work on VR software specifications, hardware integration, egocentric 6DoF video technology, and pilot development.

  • Libra AI Technologies, led by Dr. Kopsinis, is an AI company specializing in custom interactive visual analytics and AI-powered dashboards, operating under an AI-as-a-service model. With advanced GPU-based research facilities and a broad deep learning software portfolio, Libra is an ideal partner for hosting seconded staff and leading engineering and integration work on DL within ACCESS technical work packages.

  • Photon Foundation, led by Elwira Wojtunik and Popesz Csaba Láng, is an arts organization focused on contemporary culture and digital art. As the organizer of the Patchlab Digital Art Festival in Kraków and a member of the AVnode network, it supports international collaborations and artistic residencies. With experience in VR services in the arts and access to VR equipment and 360° solutions, Photon Foundation is well positioned to contribute to pilot integration, implementation, and realization of ACCESS.
