The Ars Electronica Animation Festival in Linz has been a pillar of the September Ars Electronica festival program since 2005. The program includes a wide variety of shows and a variety of animation events. It is an overview of current trends in the field of digital animation around the world, presenting specific strategies and unique points of view. The review of the awarded works in 2021 is a diverse selection from the border of animation, art and technology – outstanding films submitted to the category Computer animation Prix Ars Electronica 2022.

Award-winning animations are presented on Saturday and Sunday in different blocks.

This section presents films created by artists up to 19 years old. The program includes short animations by young artists from Austria, who submitted their works in the u19—create your world category. The films vary in style, ranging from humorous to serious, with some created individually and others collaboratively by students. The selection was curated by Sirikit Amann and developed in collaboration with Ars Electronica and OeAD, giving young creators a platform to express their perspective.

Who Owns the Truth? addresses the theme of Ars Electronica 2023, exploring contemporary debates around data ownership, the ethics of its collection, authorship in the age of AI, cryptocurrencies, deepfakes, and the credibility of images. It showcases how AI co-creates artworks with humans, while also tackling issues related to algorithmic biases and managing one’s own digital footprint.
