Paula Gaetano Adi is an Argentine interdisciplinary artist and scholar working at the intersection of robotics, craft, film, and performance. Her practice calls for a new technological imagination that recognises the world-making potential of both technology and art.
Her work has been widely presented in museums, conferences, and art festivals across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, including the National Art Museum of China, Matadero Madrid, Joburg Foundation of Contemporary Art, Lentos Museum, MejanLabs Gallery in Stockholm, Bienalsur, the Getty Research Institute, Humboldt Forum Berlin, SESC São Paulo, Vancouver Art Gallery, Pera Museum in Istanbul, Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico, and Tank Shanghai.
Her robot Alexitimia received first prize in the international VIDA, Art & Artificial Life competition and the LIMBØ Award from the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires. Her long-term project Mestizo Robotics was recognised with Fundación Telefónica’s Award for Ibero-American artists, and in 2023 she received the Creative Capital Award for Guanaquerx. In 2025, she won the Golden Nica at Prix Ars Electronica in the Artificial Life & Intelligence category.
She has been a fellow at Argentina’s National Endowment for the Arts, the Center for Research in Engineering, Media and Performance at UCLA, and EMPAC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is currently Full Professor of Experimental & Foundation Studies and Computation, Technology, and Culture, and Director of the Art & Computation Program at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
