Rachel Maclean is working across a variety of media, including video, digitalprint, sculpture, and VR. She makes complex and layered works that reference politics, fairy tales, pop culture, contemporary media, and more. She has shown her work widely, both in the UK and internationally, receiving critical acclaim in the spheres of film and visual art. Her major exhibitions include solo shows at Tate Britain And National Gallery, London; Arsenal Contemporary,New York ;National Gallery of Australia,Canberra; Kunsthalle zu Kiel,and Kunstpalais Erlangen, Germany; KWM Art Center,Beijing; and HOME, Manchester. Maclean represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale 2017 with her film commission Spite Your Face.Her work has been featured in major group exhibitions at Somerset House and the V&A, London; National Gallery of Prague; ScienceGallery Singapore; Bangkok ArtBiennale; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Mito ArtTower, Tokyo; and National Galleries of Scotland, among others. Maclean’s Biggest Commission to date, upside mimiᴉɯᴉɯuʍop,is on permanent display at Jupiter Artland, Scotland. The installation includes her first fully animated short film, which had its premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. Rachel’s most recent video work, DUCK, presented now at Patchlab Festival 2024, is the artist’s first film to usedeep fake visuals and audio. It had its World Premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam in January 2024 where Rachel was one of the artists selected for the Focus Programme. DUCK has had a successful festival run showing at a number of international film festivals after its initial premiere.
