MONOCOLOR, also known as Marian Essl, is a Vienna-based audiovisual artist. In his work, he explores the relationship between sound and image, both in the form of performances and installations. His fully generated, algorithmic visuals oscillate between fluid, organic textures and rigid structures. He focuses on the connections between sound, image, light, and space, aiming to create immersive audiovisual universes. He graduated in media technology and experimental media and is currently studying Digital Arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. His works have been presented worldwide, and in 2020, he won the New Face Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival for his audiovisual performance Latent Space, created during a residency at the Société des arts technologiques [SAT] in Montreal.
